AUGUST
004-PRESENT: Owner/Manager and Morning Host at Ionia, MI radio station WION.
Bought and restored to the air in August of 2004. Full-service radio station
featuring a mixture of Classic Rock, "Oldies" and Adult-contemporary music. We
offer a local morning and afternoon show, network news and sports hourly and a great
signal for mid-Michigan. Visit the station website by clicking on the
logo to the right. It has been
my goal and dream since entering radio as a career in the mid 1980's to have my own
station. Little did I know it would be 45 miles north of the station where it all started
for me! APRIL 2001-JANUARY 2004:
WEAX Radio Operations Manager, "88-X" owned by Tri-State University in Angola, IN.
Brought station back from off-the-air and with the help of (now WION
co-owner) Jim Aaron created "Classic Rock wth
New Music Blocks" format to gain audience not only on campus, but in the
community. Taught students the techniques of radio production and
performance, managed the station budget, and helped guide the administration in
decisions regarding programming, curriculum, and student-programs. I still keep tabs with some of the students I
helped train, and value those friendships.
APRIL
2002-AUGUST 2004:
WCSR,
Hillsdale, Michigan. Morning show host on local Full-Service
AM/FM combo. Local talk and information format. Directed
installation and integration of new on-air BSI software package to replace
analog media.
JANUARY 1993-MAY 2002: WLKI, Angola, IN. Hosted morning show for 8-plus years,
moved to late afternoon "drive" show as duties at Tri-State University
increased. Instituted and chaired WLKI's first 6 county-wide food-drives. Organized
Angola's "Tree-for All" with the Parks and Recreation Department to raise money
for replacing vandalized trees in "Commons Park." Started monthly "Community Cafe"
series in cooperation with the Steuben County Community Foundation to publicize the
foundation and promote WLKI. Knew most regular listeners by their voice!
(the station did not use caller ID at the time.)
Was very honored in 1999 to be awarded the "Elks Distinguished Citizenship
Award" by Angola, Indiana Lodge No. 2398 and the Grand Lodge, Benevolent and
Protective Order of Elks. The award was based on community involvement via the
airwaves. It was an even "higher" honor to share that award with my co-host,
Brook Steed as we were the first "team" to receive the award,
normally reserved for individuals!
JANUARY 1992-APRIL 1993: WCSR Evening program host in Hillsdale, MI. Delivered
hourly newscast live from AP wire service, chose music for each night and engineered
sports broadcasts. Vacation fill-in on morning and afternoon shows as well.
AUGUST 1991-JANUARY 1992: WYKX, Escanaba, MI. Program Director/Afternoon Drive host
of 100kw country station.
OTHER EXPERIENCE:
WITL, Lansing, MI: Regular weekend show 1991, 1992, and later "on
call" as fill-in announcer.
WKHM, Jackson, MI: Evening show host with open phones on full-service AC formatted
station.
WBCK, Battle Creek, MI: Regular Weekend shift while in college, hosting Sunday Mornings
with live news and mid-day/afternoon fill-in during hosts' vacations. My first
"real" radio job, where I begain paying my dues to the industry...and like most
things worthwhile, you never STOP paying them.
